The present handball alley at the Royal School in Dungannon appears to have been constructed around 1860; a book on the history of the school tells us an 1861 advertisement in the Dublin press for prospective pupils announced “refurbishment measures in the school that included a bathroom, a lavatory, a large gymnasium, a new ball court, a cricket ground, a detached infirmary, a new schoolroom, dormitory and reading room”.

This handball alley still exists today and is in excellent condition although little formal handball is played in it at the moment
