Dublin Castle, Dublin City

Former alley on grounds of Dublin Castle associated with the Garda Síochána, used at least into the 1960s, now roofed and converted for other use. Croke Park (1970) Alleys, Dublin



This alleys (one 60x30 and one 40x20) at Croke Park were purpose-built for the 1970 handball World Championships. These alleys will shortly close down down with the opening of a new Handball Centre. The signatures were written on the front wall of the 60x30 court after the 2019 Senior Softball Singles Final. Some names added are deceased friends who were great Handball enthusiasts. These photographs of the 60x30 alley were taken by E. Timoney in Oct 2019.

two wall plaques list the original sponsors who helped build the alley in 1970, and the Presidents of The Irish Handball Council up to 1996. This alley was used as a training base for Mohammed Ali prior to his big fight against Al Blue Lewis in Croke Park.
