Garbally Castle, Co. Galway

Garbally, Co. Galway
Photographs and information provided by M. Geogeghan, April 2010
The alley in Garbally was built onto the back wall of a 15th century O'Kelly tower house. Samuel Lewis 1832 notes that it was "partially destroyed by Cromwell" along with the nearby castle of Clooncureen in the 17th century. The alley had no back wall and the side walls were a later addition to the alley. Only one side wall remains along with a floor which is in poor repair.
