Croke Park - Old, Dublin

a>

The Old Alley at Croke Park ( structure clad in green corregated metal sheets, lhs) was demolished in 1988 for upgrade of Hill 16.
The old photograph was provided by T.Breen in 2014, who recalls that when the new alley was built, the annual membership fee was five punts, within a year shower facilities were added, and it went up to 20 punts. His father and the few others who used to travel there [played doubles/singles] felt it was too much, as they had free access to the old stone walled alley at the Jesuits in Milltown, beside Glenmalure park.
Site of demolished alley photographed in Dec 2008 by E.Timoney.

Before its demolition "old" Croke Park was one of the countries most famous alleys and was home to many great games especially arising from the Gael-Linn Cup finals. Some of my best games were there.
