One of the handball alleys was knocked in 1991 to faciliate development of Albert's Corridor extension and the second was knocked in 2003 (approximately) to allow for preparatory work in relation to a further extension.

In Newbridge College there were two open alleys. I won my first handball tournaments there. A couple of top sporting figures going to school there then were the singer Christy Moore and top horse trainer, Dermot Weld. In his younger days, Christy played some handball in these alleys.
