Hollyford alley in Co Tipperary is a place of very fond memories from the sixties to the ninties.
Watched great games, Micheal O Brien, Pat Ryan (C) who have since won many All Irelands at all levels. Paddy Ryan (S) Ramie Shanahan,Canice Ryan, Jim Quirke, Dinny Fahy (RIP)Tony Hurley (RIP) and many others played their hearts out on many a Sunday afternoon in the sixties, seventies and eighties.
A commitee of nine was formed in late eighties with a view to putting a roof, toilets, car park ect on the original alley, this idea was hugely supported locally and fundraising began. This project was completed in 1991 and a tribute to the people of Hollyford and surrounding areas for their huge financial support and help in many ways, no money was owed on the alley on offical opening evening.
Michael O Brien and Pat Ryan (C) and some friends from Dublin arrived to play exibition games on opening evening and were an absolute joy to watch. A revival of handball was evident in the early ninties with Donal Quinn, Sean Allis, John Ryan, Seasmus Ryan (D) with Canice and Dinny making a return also. Long may it continue.
Delighted to see Hollyford alley is as good now as any of the top 10 alleys in the country.
